Africa

Kenya

(276 expert months; Client: GTZ, BMZ, ICRAF)
a) Establishment of the only forestry college in Kenya. Curriculum and teaching material development. Introduction of new training courses. Training of trainers and facilitators.
b) Establishment of the Kenya Forestry Seed Centre. Development of procedures and legal regulations for the provision with forest reproductive material. Selection and establishment of improved seed sources. Research on Germination and storage of forest reproductive material. Training of experts at all levels. Marketing of forest reproductive material.
c) Establishment of and support to official liaison and co-operation of the Kenya Forestry Research Institute, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Forestry department. Research management and support to sustainable forest management.
d) Several project progress reviews.

Asia
ASEAN (regional)	(1,0 months; Client: GTZ) Project appraisal of a regional forest programme under the roof of the ASEAN Secretariat. Project progress review. Bosnia-Herzegovina (0,5 months; Client: World Bank) Organisation and implementation of a study tour and training course in Hesse on timber and other forest products marketing.
China	(84 months; Client: GTZ) Support to the Chinese Government's efforts to promote reforestation in the country to foster timber production, protection of human settlements and agricultural production. The project's activities include: Training of staff and key stakeholders (from national to district levels) on afforestation concepts and principles, establishment of a tree breeding program for indigenous tree species, development of participatory mechanisms in forest management involving the local communities, impact monitoring and project management, change management, institutional and organisational reforms. Support to the development of national policies and afforestation strategies; rules and regulations for forest reproductive material; decentralised forest management and governance in the Pilot Area of Jinshatan, Shanxi Province; integration into the Sanbei-afforestation program and others in the same regions.
Indonesia	(54,5 months; Client: GTZ) Support to the development of the Indonesian National Forest Program (nfp). The Project is designed to stimulate a cross-sectoral dialogue on forests. In close co-operation with other donors, it also provides advice and consultancy as well as training and qualification measures to all relevant stakeholders groups. Services include: Training of ministerial staff and key stakeholders (from national to district levels) on: nfp concepts and principles; international forest-related agreements and policies ; cross-sector forestry planning; payment of environmental services ; participatory mechanisms in forest management; impact monitoring and project management; change management; institutional and organisational reforms. Support is given to: national policies and strategies; rules and regulations for better forest governance; inter-ministerial coordination mechanisms; facilitation of multi-stakeholder dialogues with the aim of transparent and accountable decision making at national and district levels (in partnership with DFID and the nfp Facilty hosted by FAO); decentralised forest management and governance in pilot districts (in partnership with USAID); mechanisms and institutions for environmental services payment (in partnership with the World Agroforestry Centre and the Rewarding the Upland Poor for Environmental Services - RUPES - Program); knowledge management and strategy development for Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) in forestry (partnership with JICA). Backstopping of ongoing activities.
Indonesia	(3,5 expert months; Client: GTZ) Advisory services for the establishment of a forest management unit (FMU) system in Indonesia; assistance for selection, design and implementation of pilot FMUs; advice related for legal regulations; advice to the development of activities under the REDD regime (Reduced Emissions from Avoided deforestation and Degradation in Developing Countries); organization and implementation of an intensive training course on forest administrative organization.
Korea	(0,5 months; Client: National Forestry Co-operatives Federation) Organisation and implementation of a study tour and training course on forest management and techniques in relation to small-scale private forest owners.
Ukraine	(0,5 months; Client: BMVEL) Organisation and implementation of a study tour and training course on sustainable forest management and silvicultural techniques.

Europe
Bulgaria	(3,5 months; Client: GTZ) Training of small-scale forest owners Training needs analysis. Development and establishment of a mobile training centre. Criteria based selection of suitable training personnel. Development of criteria for training participants. Development of training materials and programs. Training course for future organisers and managers of mobile training schools and programs conducted in one of the Hessen-Forst skilled forest workers training centre in Diemelstadt. Training for trainers of the mobile training schools conducted in Diemelstadt.
Bulgaria	(20 months; Client: EU) Strengthening the administrative capacities of the state forest administration. Assessment and 'train the trainers' project in co-operation with �BF. Fields of activities: Project steering and management, Forest reproductive material; Forest policy development; Forest fire prevention; Forest extension services; Forest inspection services and control / combating illegal activities; Forest police; Forest economy.
Hungary	(2 months; Client: EU) Modernisation of the statistical, registration and information system of the forestry sector in Hungary. Assist in adapting the legal and institutional background to comply with EU requirements. The services included: Training of staff and key stakeholders on EU concepts and principles; international forest-related agreements and policies; cross-sector forestry planning; payment of subsidies and financial incentives; participatory mechanisms in forest management; impact monitoring and project management; change management; institutional and organisational reforms; develop IT system. Support in the development of national policies and strategies; rules and regulations for better forest management; inter-ministerial coordination mechanisms.
Montenegro	(0,5 expert months; Client: GFA) Project progress review, sustainable forest management, marketing of timber products, forest company development.

Latin-America
Brazil	(576 expert months; Client: GTZ) Establishment of the only forestry college in Brazil. Curriculum and teaching material development. Introduction of new training courses. Training of trainers and facilitators.
Paraguay	(36 expert months; Client: GTZ) Support to the development of a national strategy for the sustainable management of natural resources in Paraguay. Strengthening of organisations (both governmental and non-governmental), development and implementation of a HRD program. Alternative and innovative financing mechanisms in the framework of international conventions and agreements. Support to the harmonisation of environmental legislation through studies, working groups and round table discussions. Creation of a permanent Round Table on Forestry (Mesa Redonda Forestal).
