Support to the Chinese Government's efforts to promote reforestation in the country to foster timber production, protection of human settlements and agricultural production.
The project's activities include: Training of staff and key stakeholders (from national to district levels) on afforestation concepts and principles, establishment of a tree breeding program for indigenous tree species, development of participatory mechanisms in forest management involving the local communities, impact monitoring and project management, change management, institutional and organisational reforms. Support to the development of national policies and afforestation strategies; rules and regulations for forest reproductive material; decentralised forest management and governance in the Pilot Area of Jinshatan, Shanxi Province; integration into the Sanbei-afforestation program and others in the same regions. |

Support to the development of the Indonesian National Forest Program (nfp). The Project is designed to stimulate a cross-sectoral dialogue on forests. In close co-operation with other donors, it also provides advice and consultancy as well as training and qualification measures to all relevant stakeholders groups.
Services include: Training of ministerial staff and key stakeholders (from national to district levels) on:
nfp concepts and principles; international forest-related agreements and policies ; cross-sector forestry planning; payment of environmental services ; participatory mechanisms in forest management; impact monitoring and project management; change management; institutional and organisational reforms. Support is given to: national policies and strategies; rules and regulations for better forest governance; inter-ministerial coordination mechanisms; facilitation of multi-stakeholder dialogues with the aim of transparent and accountable decision making at national and district levels (in partnership with DFID and the nfp Facilty hosted by FAO); decentralised forest management and governance in pilot districts (in partnership with USAID); mechanisms and institutions for environmental services payment (in partnership with the World Agroforestry Centre and the Rewarding the Upland Poor for Environmental Services - RUPES - Program); knowledge management and strategy development for Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) in forestry (partnership with JICA).
